Every year, GIMD's middle school students ideate, plan, and assemble a haunted house in our makerspace. To make their spookiest dreams a reality, we need some extra hands to help set up the haunted house. Halloween costumes encouraged!

What is the definition of democratic socialist? How is it being used – and misused – by political campaigns? What is Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and how does it relate to the “democratic socialist” label? Dr. Seth Masket, Political Science Professor at University of Denver, will lead this session. As a leading national and local expert on how political parties evolve, change, and handle factional infighting, Dr. Masket will speak on how the rise of democratic socialist candidates is reshaping the traditional Democratic Party infrastructure and nomination processes. Join SAME Café on Thursday, October 22nd from 5:30–8:30pm at Dry Clean Only for a free, reservation‑only celebration honoring two decades of community, connection, and delicious food on East Colfax.

Expect an evening full of joyful, hands‑on birthday fun with interactive activities including handmade piñatas, birthday cake, a timeline of the café’s 20 years, a video montage featuring Brad and Libby Birky, and the community that makes SAME so special.

This milestone is about 20 years of community, dignity and healthy food on East Colfax. Celebrate old friends, new friends, longtime supporters, and anyone who has ever shared a meal at SAME Café.

This year’s upcoming ballot is packed with constitutional amendments and propositions. To help clarify them and cut through the noise, Bonnie Clarke, Central Presbyterian and League of Women Voters (LWV) member, will present LWV summaries. She will cover statewide initiatives as well as Denver-specific ballot issues. Time allotted for Q&A, and worksheets will be provided. Join us to celebrate our new writing and art installation, The Globeville StoryWalk, with a community reading and walk/roll through the neighborhood! 

Over the past year, we hosted creative writing workshops in the Globeville community with local residents, and now have showcased their writings and poems on signs and electrical box wraps on street corners and parks throughout the neighborhood. With graphics by local artist, Levi Garcia.

Come enjoy a community reading and walk/roll to experience the StoryWalk together, featuring live readings by the authors! We’ll walk a leisurely pace for a two-mile loop, through Argo Park and along the 46th Street planter boxes, pausing to read and listen. Wheelchairs, walkers, strollers welcome. 

Walk begins in Argo Park, behind the pool, at 11:30 am. 

We’ll have free burritos and coffee for the first 50 participants!
