One Day to Welcome

June 21, Special Offering for World Refugee Day: On Sunday, June 21st Capitol Heights will hold a special offering for One Day to Welcome in collaboration with Project Worthmore. All donations given toward One Day to Welcome for World Refugee Day will be given to Project Worthmore in support of their work with Colorado’s refugees and newcomers. You can make a donation any time in the days leading up to June 21st. Details on how to donate can be found below.

More background information: June 20th is World Refugee Day, designated by the United Nations as the day to honor the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. According to the most recent numbers, more than 1 in every 70 people on Earth has been forced to flee their homes, totaling 117.3 million. 40% of all displaced people are children. Among them are nearly 42.5 million refugees.

Since 1980, more than 80,000 refugees have resettled in Colorado. Project Worthmore supports refugees, newcomers, and other displaced people by providing essential programs and services to ensure their health, stability, and dignity as they navigate the challenges of starting over and building safe, secure lives in a new community.

Donations can be mailed (CHPC c/o Charlie Fiser, 1100 Fillmore Street, Denver, CO 80206), made online (PayPal at https://tinyurl.com/CapHeightsPresDonate) or in person on Sunday mornings. Please mark “One Day to Welcome” or “Project Worthmore” on your donation so it is clear where to direct the funds. Checks can be made payable to “CHPC.”
